The semester system is adopted at Au. The academic year is divided into two semesters and a summer session. A semester has a duration of not less than 16 weeks. One credit hour involves a minimum of 15 hours of classwork. Therefore, a subject involving 3 credit hours will require at least 45 hours in class. To qualify for sitting for the final exam of any subject, the student is required to have a minimum of 80% attendance.

The minimum course load for all full-time students is four courses (12 credit hours) and maximum is six courses (18 credit hours) per semester.
